Oh hell. This week I begin my portfolio.
From now, the real work begins.
Scared? Yes.
Kicked off my week with an early (Sunday) start getting some landscape test shots in. Landscape isn't something I've really shot, so I figured a bit of practice wasn't amiss. The results could've been worse, put it that way.
This Tuesday, I'm trying out my first series I've put together in my head. I'm not so sure how this one is going to work out, I'm really going to need to think this through properly. It's going to be book-based.
This Wednesday, my lovely boyfriend, Jamie, has agreed to model for me, so I'm hoping to shoot some AWESOME action shots.
Also, I'm looking to upgrade to a professional camera (body and lens) and I'm keen to go down the route of either Canon or Nikon.
Obviously for Canon, I'm considering the Canon 5D Mark II (I've heard people RAVE about this camera) and the 1D Mark III. As for Nikon, there's the D3.
I was wondering though, could somebody explain the Nikon system to me? Is it similar to the Canon EOS range in the sense the smaller the number, the better the camera?

Sounds all pretty packed, I hope you get along with it nicely! But think about the fact that many professional photographers have not finished their portfolio until they were 32, and working professsionally for over 10 years...
Personally I'd say 5D MkII or 1Ds MkII. Why the second one? Because it's a weather sealed, high resolution and by now nicely priced prof body camera!

Long time no speak!
That's very true and this portfolio is by no means my be all and end all - I just have to submit a portfolio for my next course.
Ahh, thank you for pointing that out! I've had experiences with 5Ds before, but I've never actually used a 1D. :\

And the 1D series is chunky, of course, so you will want to try it out somewhere, but my suggestion stands, plus price is nice for a full pro body modell right now... I have no idea whether you'd shoot with battery grip or without, because this would make them rather equal. Of course the 1Ds MkII lacks the video features and has an older image processor than the (really awesome) 5D MkII...
I've been fine, I just started my college term two weeks ago, and I'm enjoying myself, trying to keep up with the speed and writing it all up etc, but I think I'm coping alright
I've set a few new projects, such as a college paper, a photo book for Christmas, and few other soon-to-be-started projects (most of them rather long term!).
